In addition to manga expression as an artist, Rica Takashima continues to create participatory public installation series. Before three decades in Japan, the project was called “Aozora Art (Blue Sky Art)”, but since coming to New York, it has been renamed “Aliens in New York”.
The aim of this art project is to “change our feelings of discomfort with unfamiliar things and/or people we don't know into something interesting and amusing, rather than as a feeling of displeasure and/or conflict.
Aliens in New York started in 2013 in NYC, and the annual reports has been written in manga book format from 2013. It is a successful means of communicating Rica's thoughts to donors and sponsors in an easy-to-understand way.
